The Glorious Sons - First Ever UK Show, Review & Photos!
Located in the venue upstairs at The Old Blue Last Pub in Shoreditch, The Glorious Sons were preparing to play their first ever UK show. In festive spirits, it was a free entry gig, and the venue was packed prior to the band coming onstage. With doors at 8pm and The Glorious Sons on at 9, it was looking to be a brilliant evening.
The Glorious Sons took to the stage at nine on the dot, opening their performance with Godless, Graceless and Young, the crowd sang and swayed to the music. The Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario, squeezed onto the small stage, managed to captivate the crowd from the get-go. The band seemed to grow in confidence as their set went on, their energy snowballing with each song.
The bands set comprised largely of songs from their latest album, Young Beauties and Fools, released in October earlier this year. The next three songs being Sawed Off Shotgun, My Poor Heart and Comedown. Frontman Brett Emmons puts on a charismatic and slightly crazed performance, but the emotion and heart the band put into their live shows is conveyed clearly.
As well as performing a large chunk of their latest album, including songs So Much Love To Give, Hide My Love, and Everything Is Alright, The Glorious Sons also performed White Noise from their last album The Union, after an epic rendition of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You, which saw everyone in the room singing along. This was followed by I Want Ya, Goodbye and Kill The Lights, throughout which Brett Emmons swung from a bar on the ceiling, much to the amazement of the crowd.
The band were clearly humbled to play to such a packed venue, and ecstatic when the response they received on their first ever UK show was a room full of fans singing along and jumping around to all their songs. It gives a glimpse of what to expect for their much anticipated UK tour in March 2018, which if anything like tonight, will be an amazing run of shows that any rock fans would be fools to miss out on.
